Afghanistan GDP Expenditure Components, 2021–2023

Consumption, capital formation, exports and imports; % of GDP, 2021–2023.

What the Data Shows

Household consumption was Afghanistan’s largest GDP expenditure ratio from 2021 through 2023. It reached 95.7% of GDP in 2023, while imports rose to 54.5%. Gross capital formation and exports reached 16.7% and 18.4%, respectively. Imports enter the GDP identity with a negative sign, so these ratios are not a positive composition.

Data notes & caveats

Imports are reported as a positive ratio in the source but enter the GDP expenditure identity with a negative sign.

Methodology

The five expenditure ratios use one ADB Key Indicators release. Net exports equal exports minus imports, while the source’s statistical discrepancy is retained rather than forcing the ratios to 100%.

Source consistency notes

Every value uses the stated institutional source family, Afghanistan national scope, 2021–2023, and the labelled unit basis. Signed balances, non-final values, live quotes and mixed valuation bases remain explicit where applicable.
