What the Data Shows
China’s designated-size retail enterprises reported different sales growth across five store formats in 2025. Convenience stores led with 5.5% growth, followed by supermarkets at 4.3%. Department stores were nearly flat at 0.1%, while brand stores declined 0.6%. The spread between the fastest and slowest formats was 6.1 percentage points.
