What the Data Shows

Australian states and territories are ranked by domestic overnight trip spending in calendar year 2025. The comparison covers all eight destination jurisdictions in current Australian dollars. New South Wales ranks first at A$30.95 billion, followed by Queensland at A$27.68 billion. The Northern Territory records the lowest value at A$1.73 billion.

Data notes & caveats

Calendar 2025 totals sum the March, June, September and December quarter releases from the new Domestic Tourism Statistics collection. The series is not directly continuous with the former National Visitor Survey.

Methodology

Calendar-year spending totals use the four 2025 quarterly releases from Tourism Research Australia’s current domestic tourism collection and are ranked from highest to lowest.
