Exports per Square Kilometre by Country

Singapore and Macao each exceed US$1.2B of exports per km².

What the Data Shows

Exports per square kilometre is measured as export value divided by land area for compact, trade-intensive economies. The data ranks Singapore, Macao, Hong Kong, Malta and Luxembourg using export values and area denominators. Singapore leads at about US$1.34B per km², while Macao also exceeds US$1.2B per km². The measure includes services and re-export activity where the source data support it, so it is export-density rather than domestic manufacturing output.

Data notes & caveats

Exports are goods and services for World Development Indicators countries; Macao uses World Integrated Trade Solution current exports because it gives a cleaner public value. Values are rounded.

Methodology

For World Development Indicators economies, export value equals GDP multiplied by exports of goods and services as a share of GDP, then divided by area. Macao uses World Integrated Trade Solution current export value divided by area.

Source consistency notes

Most values use World Bank World Development Indicators; Macao uses WITS/World Development Indicators due cleaner public export-value reporting for the territory.
