What the Data Shows
National greenhouse-gas emissions intensity compares emissions with economic output across seven leading nations in 2024. Values are tonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalent per US$1,000 of GDP at constant 2017 purchasing power, excluding land-use change and forestry. Palau ranks first at 5.11, more than twice the Central African Republic’s 2.26. Eritrea ranks seventh at 0.87, making the leader 5.88 times higher.

Data notes & caveats
Carbon-dioxide equivalent combines greenhouse gases using a common warming basis. GDP is measured at constant 2017 purchasing-power parity, and land use, land-use change and forestry are excluded.
Methodology
The 2024 EDGAR national intensity measure was ordered from highest to lowest after excluding combined and non-sovereign entries. The seven highest sovereign-nation values are included.
Source consistency notes
Every value uses the same EDGAR release, 2024 period, emissions scope, unit and PPP-adjusted GDP basis.
