This comparison ranks infant mortality across 35 Indian state and union-territory reporting areas in 2023. The rate counts deaths before age one per 1,000 live births. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh shared the highest rate at 37 deaths per 1,000 live births. Haryana ranked ninth at 26, 11 below the tied leaders.

Methodology
Reporting areas with a 2023 infant mortality rate are ordered from highest to lowest or lowest to highest as stated in the title. The All India total and missing observations are excluded.
Source consistency notes
Every value uses the same Reserve Bank of India release, 2023 reference year, infant-mortality definition and unit.
