What the Data Shows

This comparison ranks life expectancy at birth across 22 major Indian state and territory reporting areas for 2019–23. The values are years a newborn would be expected to live under the period’s mortality rates. Kerala ranked first at 75.1 years, while Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir shared 74.4 years. At the lower end, Punjab, Telangana and West Bengal each recorded 70.8 years.
