What the Data Shows

Nigeria’s CPI rebasing reduced food and non-alcoholic beverages from 51.8% to 40.0% of the basket. It also expanded product coverage from 740 to 934 varieties. The food-weight change and product-count change use different units and are shown as separate benchmarks. Together they describe how the new CPI changed both expenditure weights and market coverage.
