Indian states by electricity generation, 2024-25

Gross electricity generation by state, TWh; shares use all-India generation, 2024-25.

What the Data Shows

Indian states by electricity generation ranks gross generation by state for 2024-25. The rows use CEA/MoP state generation in TWh and shares use the all-India generation total of 1,824.12 TWh. Uttar Pradesh led at 175.20 TWh, narrowly ahead of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The top nine states accounted for 71.2% of the all-India total, with the leader 1.79x West Bengal.

Data notes & caveats

Values are converted to TWh from the CEA/MoP generation totals reproduced in the MNRE Renewable Energy Statistics 2024-25 publication. Shares use the all-India state and union-territory generation total from the same source frame.

Methodology

Rows are ranked by gross electricity generation. Percentages are each state value divided by the all-India generation total supplied in the research brief.

Source consistency notes

All row values and the denominator use the same 2024-25 CEA/MoP generation frame reproduced by MNRE.
