What the Data Shows
Kenyan counties are ranked by population in the final 2019 national census. The nine leading counties are compared with the official national total of 47,564,296 people. Nairobi City ranked first with 4,397,073 residents, followed by Kiambu with 2,417,735. The top two accounted for 14.3% of Kenya’s population, and the top nine accounted for 38.3%.

All 47 counties are screened and ranked by final resident population from the 2019 census. Each county share uses the official national census total.
Source consistency notes
Every county row and the denominator use the same census reference date, person unit and resident-population definition.
