Monetary and Multidimensional Poverty Measures in Nigeria

Nigeria monetary and multidimensional poverty rates; different definitions and periods.

What the Data Shows

Nigeria’s official monetary-poverty rate was 40.1% in 2018/19, while the multidimensional-poverty rate was 63.0% in 2022. The measures use different definitions, survey frameworks and reference periods. The 22.9-point difference is therefore descriptive rather than a change over time. The page compares two official poverty lenses without merging them into one series.
