What the Data Shows
Australian states and territories are ranked by the share of people aged 15 and over who experienced physical assault in 2024–25. The survey-based rates are accompanied by relative standard errors, all below the ABS 25% caution threshold for this comparison. The Northern Territory ranks highest at 4.8%, followed by Tasmania at 2.8%. New South Wales ranks lowest at 1.4%, while the national rate was 1.8%.

Data notes & caveats
The rate is the share of people aged 15 and over who experienced physical assault in the previous 12 months. The survey scope changed in 2024–25 to exclude residents in very remote areas.
Methodology
The 2024–25 physical-assault rate for each jurisdiction is ranked from highest to lowest, with survey precision reported alongside each jurisdiction.
