What the Data Shows
Portugal’s leading individual fish species are ranked by captured weight in 2024. The ranking covers nine leading species from 15 non-overlapping species categories, and shares use the national catch of 122,039 tonnes. Sardine ranked first at 31,922 tonnes, ahead of chub mackerel by 13,617 tonnes. The nine ranked species accounted for 76.8% of Portugal’s total catch.

Methodology
The comparison retains individual species and excludes overlapping group totals. The species were ranked by tonnes, and shares use the separately published total catch.
Source consistency notes
Every ranked row and the denominator use the same DGRM source family, 2024 period and tonne unit.
