Renewable Electricity Mix by Australian Jurisdiction, 2024

Australia wind, solar, hydro and other shares of renewable generation by jurisdiction; %, 2024.

What the Data Shows

Renewable electricity generation is divided into wind, solar, hydro and other renewable sources across seven Australian jurisdictions in 2024. Each row expresses the four technologies as shares of the jurisdiction’s total renewable generation. Solar supplies 72.8% of Queensland’s renewable generation and 97.8% of the Northern Territory’s. Hydro supplies 74.8% of Tasmania’s renewable generation, while wind leads the renewable mix in Victoria and South Australia.

Dataset/table: Renewable electricity generation by technology and jurisdiction

Units: gigawatt-hours and percent

Date checked: 2026-07-15

Evidence: Supports renewable totals and wind, solar and hydro generation used to calculate each jurisdiction’s renewable technology mix.

Data notes & caveats

The ACT is included with New South Wales in the official energy statistics and is not a separate row. The residual can include bioenergy and other renewable sources reported outside the three named technologies.

Methodology

Wind, solar and hydro generation are divided by each jurisdiction’s renewable generation total. Other renewables are obtained as the exact residual and all four shares are checked to sum to 100%.

Source consistency notes

Every matrix cell uses the same Australian Energy Statistics release, calendar year and gigawatt-hour source basis.
