Solar-to-Wind Electricity Ratios by Australian Jurisdiction, 2024

Australia solar generation divided by wind generation for six jurisdictions with wind output; 2024.

What the Data Shows

Six Australian jurisdictions with non-zero wind output are ranked by solar generation relative to wind generation in 2024. Each ratio divides solar gigawatt-hours by wind gigawatt-hours from the same official source. Queensland ranks first at 5.36 times, followed by New South Wales at 2.66 times. The Northern Territory is excluded because its recorded wind generation was zero, making the ratio undefined.

Dataset/table: Wind and solar electricity generation by jurisdiction

Units: gigawatt-hours and ratio

Date checked: 2026-07-15

Evidence: Supports wind and solar generation used to calculate ratios for six jurisdictions with non-zero wind output.

Data notes & caveats

The Northern Territory is not assigned an infinite or artificial ratio because the recorded wind denominator is zero. The ACT is included with New South Wales in the source frame.

Methodology

Solar generation is divided by wind generation for each jurisdiction with a non-zero wind value. The resulting ratios are sorted from highest to lowest.

Source consistency notes

All six rows use the same official release, calendar year and gigawatt-hour inputs.
