What the Data Shows
The S&P 500 is compared with United States GDP using a May 29, 2026 index-provider market-cap snapshot and IMF April 2026 WEO GDP. The data uses S&P 500 constituent market capitalization in current US dollars and the IMF current-price United States GDP denominator. S&P Dow Jones Indices reported US$67.80 trillion of S&P 500 constituent market cap, equal to 209.4% of the US$32.38 trillion GDP benchmark. The S&P numerator covers index constituents rather than every United States public company, and the GDP denominator is an IMF WEO outlook value.

Data notes & caveats
This benchmark mixes a market snapshot with IMF WEO current-price GDP. It should not be presented as total national stock-market capitalization.
Methodology
S&P 500 constituent market capitalization is divided by IMF current-price United States GDP and expressed as a percentage.
Source consistency notes
The numerator comes from S&P DJI as of May 29, 2026; the denominator comes from IMF April 2026 WEO.
