Evidence: Provides conventional hydroelectric utility-scale net generation for the complete 50-observation comparison on a consistent thousand megawatthours basis.

Data notes & caveats

Generation is net electricity output from utility-scale facilities using the named energy source. State totals are annual and use a common thousand-MWh basis.

Methodology

States are ranked by conventional hydroelectric utility-scale net generation in the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Electric Power Annual 2024. The comparison excludes the District of Columbia, regional aggregates and the U.S. total. Values use thousand megawatthours and are ordered from highest to lowest. The graphic uses the top 9 states, while the accompanying data retains all 50 states.

Source consistency notes

All values use the same U.S. Energy Information Administration publication, 2024 period and thousand megawatthours unit, supporting a like-for-like comparison.
