Methodology
States are ranked by all-sector electricity sales in the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Electric Power Annual 2024. The comparison excludes the District of Columbia, regional aggregates and the U.S. total. Values use thousand megawatthours and are ordered from highest to lowest. The graphic uses the top 9 states, while the accompanying data retains all 50 states.
Source consistency notes
All values use the same U.S. Energy Information Administration publication, 2024 period and thousand megawatthours unit, supporting a like-for-like comparison.
