What the Data Shows
Renewable electricity shares are compared across the four UK countries at six points from 2004 to 2024. Each percentage measures renewable generation against total electricity generation in the same country and year. Scotland rises from 11.7% in 2004 to 73.1% in 2024, remaining the highest of the four. England increases from 2.4% to 46.8%, while Wales and Northern Ireland both ease from their 2020 levels by 2024.

Data notes & caveats
Shares are country-specific ratios and should not be interpreted as each country's share of UK renewable output. The selected years provide a readable view of the complete annual series.
Methodology
The series selects 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 from the DESNZ annual renewable-share statistics. Each line retains the same country, denominator and renewable definition.
Source consistency notes
All four lines use the same workbook, fuel definition, selected years and percentage basis.
