What the Data Shows
Full-time United Kingdom undergraduates were surveyed in December 2025 on generative AI use and AI-related support in higher education. The comparison covers seven student indicators, with student respondents as the denominator for the main rows. Ninety-five percent reported using AI in at least one way, while 37% agreed their institution encouraged AI use. Student AI use was 2.57 times the institutional encouragement rate, a 58 percentage-point gap.

Data notes & caveats
The HEPI and Kortext survey polled 1,054 full-time UK undergraduate students in December 2025 and weighted responses by key student characteristics. The figures represent student respondents rather than all UK higher-education learners.
Methodology
Rows use HEPI and Kortext survey indicators for full-time UK undergraduate students. The main multiple compares AI use in any way with agreement that the institution encourages AI use.
Source consistency notes
All seven displayed indicators come from the same HEPI and Kortext survey report and use full-time UK undergraduate respondents as the population basis.
