Wind Electricity Generation Across UK Countries, 2004–2024

Annual wind electricity generation; GWh, selected years 2004–2024.

What the Data Shows

Wind electricity generation is compared across the four UK countries at six points from 2004 to 2024. Each series uses annual gigawatt-hours generated from wind in the same official DESNZ workbook. England rises from 400.6 GWh in 2004 to 46,258.6 GWh in 2024, the largest absolute increase. Scotland grows from 848.4 GWh to 29,493.5 GWh and remains the second-largest producer.

Data notes & caveats

The visual uses selected years for readability, while the source workbook retains the complete annual 2004–2024 series.

Methodology

The trend selects six evenly spaced years from the DESNZ country-level wind generation series. Each point is annual generation in gigawatt-hours for all generating companies.

Source consistency notes

Every line uses one workbook, the same wind definition, common years and gigawatt-hour unit.
