What the Data Shows

New Zealand banks’ reported changes in credit availability are compared across six high-level lending sectors for the six months to March 2026. The survey index ranges from −100 to 100, with positive values indicating easier availability and negative values indicating tighter availability. Residential mortgages recorded the strongest easing at 13.3, followed by commercial property at 10.3 and agriculture at 8.9. Small-business and corporate or institutional availability were unchanged at zero, while consumer credit tightened slightly at −2.3.
