What the Data Shows
China’s photovoltaic-cell output is compared from 2023 through 2025, using 2023 and 2025 as the endpoints. The official National Bureau of Statistics measure is industrial output expressed as power-equivalent capacity in gigawatts, not installed capacity or electricity generation. Output rose from 540.0 GW in 2023 to 832.7 GW in 2025. The increase was 292.7 GW, or 54.2%, and the intermediate 2024 value was 680.0 GW.
Data table
Unit: GW equivalent · Period: 2023–2025
| Rank | Entry | Value | Period |
|---|
| 1 | 2023 | 540.0 | 2023 |
| 2 | 2025 | 832.7 | 2025 |

Data notes & caveats
This is industrial photovoltaic-cell output expressed in power-equivalent capacity. It is not installed solar capacity or annual electricity generation, and the official figures are preliminary.
Methodology
The endpoint comparison uses official annual industrial-output values and converts billion kilowatts to power-equivalent gigawatts; the 2024 observation remains available alongside the endpoints.
Source consistency notes
All three annual observations use the same official communiqué family, industrial-output definition and power-equivalent unit.
