What the Data Shows
China had 11.530 million valid utility-model patents at the end of 2025, the largest of the three top-level patent types. Valid invention patents numbered 6.318 million, and design patents numbered 3.171 million. Domestic invention patents totaled 5.320 million, equal to 84.2% of all valid invention patents. The domestic figure is a subset of invention patents and is retained as supporting evidence rather than a fourth peer category.

Data notes & caveats
Patent counts are expressed in millions after converting the NBS figures from thousands. The annual figures are preliminary.
Methodology
The three top-level valid-patent types are compared as raw year-end stocks. Domestic invention patents remain a subset benchmark within the invention total.
Source consistency notes
All three top-level values and the domestic-invention subset use the same NBS release, end-2025 date and valid-patent definition.
