What the Data Shows
DANE projected 39,903,699 people in municipal seats and 12,710,054 in other centres and rural dispersed areas in 2024. The two area counts sum exactly to the national projected population of 52,613,753. Municipal seats therefore contained 75.8% of the projected population. The official area class is cabecera municipal and is narrower than an unrestricted claim that every resident in the category lives in a city.

| Rank | Entry | Value | Period |
|---|

Data notes & caveats
DANE's cabecera category means municipal seat. It should not be simplified to all urban places without explaining the official area classification.
Methodology
Uses the two DANE area counts for 2024 and divides each by the exact national projection total in the same workbook.
Source consistency notes
Both area counts and the total come from the same DANE projection workbook, year and unit.
