What the Data Shows

Eleven selected nations are compared by informal-employment rates in agriculture, industry and services in 2024. Each percentage measures informal employment within the corresponding national sector rather than a share of the three sectors combined. Nigeria has the highest three-sector selection average at 93.8%; its rates range from 88.9% in services to 99.6% in agriculture. Rwanda has the lowest services rate in the selected group at 65.9%.

The three-sector average is used only to select the comparison group and is not an official ILO indicator. Each sector rate uses employment in that sector as its national denominator.

Methodology

The comparison uses agriculture, industry and services rates for nations with complete 2024 observations. The ten highest three-sector averages appear in the graphic, while the accompanying table retains all eleven selected nations.

Source consistency notes

Every sector value uses the same ILOSTAT source family, year and percent-of-employment unit.
