NATO equipment spending share by member, 2025

Equipment as a share of each member’s defence expenditure, 2025.

What the Data Shows

NATO member defence-spending allocation is measured by equipment expenditure as a share of each member’s total defence expenditure in 2025. The ranking uses 10 members with reported equipment-share rows; Germany and Denmark are excluded from the ranking because the 2025 rows were not available. Poland led the group at 54.44%, with Luxembourg second at 53.51%. The leader’s share was 1.56 times the tenth-ranked member’s share, a gap of 19.44 percentage points.

Data notes & caveats

NATO identifies 2025 values as estimates. Equipment includes major equipment expenditure and research and development devoted to major equipment. Germany and Denmark are not included because the 2025 equipment-share row was unavailable in the captured NATO table.

Methodology

Rows are ranked by equipment expenditure as a percentage of each member’s total defence expenditure. Comparison metrics use the ranked row values supplied in the research brief.

Source consistency notes

Rows use the same NATO release, same 2025 period and same percent-of-member-total unit.
